Barbra Joan Streisand was born on 24 April , 1942 and was born in Brooklyn , New york in the United States.
She is nown as an American singer-songwriter , film producer and ofcourse actress.
She is one of the most commerically and critically succesful entertainers in modern entertainment history.
She won 2 Academy Awards, 8 Grammy Awards , 4 Emmy's, a Special Tony Award , an American Film Instute Award and a Peabody Award.
She sold 140 millin albums worldwide.
Barbra was born to a Jewish family , daughter of Emmanuel and Diana. She was the second of 2 children fathered by Emmanuel. 15 moths after his daughters birth he died of cerebral hemorrhage and the family went to a near poverty.Barbra attended Erasmus hall high school in brooklyn and joined the freshman chorus and choral club.
Diana Streisand remarried and gave birth to Barbra's halfsister.Barbra became a nightclub singer in her teen years. She wanted to be an actress and appeared in summer stock and in a numer of off-off broadway productions, with the then-unkown Joan Rivers.
When her boyfriend Barry Dennen helped her create a club act , she achieved succes as a singer.
Stresisand irst television appaerance was on the The Tonight Show, singing Harold Arlen's , A sleepin bee.

Streisand returned to Broadway in 1964 with an acclaimed perfomance as entertainer Fanny Brice in Funny Girl at the Winter Garder Theatre.
The show introduced 2 of her signature songs , People and Dont rain on my parade.

Barbra Streisand has recorded 35 studio albums almost all with Columbia Records. Beginning with My Name is Barbra , her early albums were often medley-filled keepsakes of her television specials. In 1969 she began attempting more contemporary material but like manu talented singers of the day , she found herself out of her element with rock. Her vocal talents prevailed ,and she gained succes with the pop and balled genre.Richard perry produced her album Stoney End in 1971. The tittle track written by Laura Nyro was a major hit for Streisand. From 1970 till 1990 she made a lot of songs that were a hit , for example : A woman in love , guilty and till i loved you.

Her next 2 movies were also based on musials. Jerry herman's Hello Dolly and On a Clear day you can see forever by Alan Jay Lerner and Burton Lane and her fourth film was based on the Broadway play The Owl and the Pussycat.

During 1970 she was starred in several comedies for example : Whats up doc ? , The Main Event , For pete's sake and she also did a famous role in the drama movie : The way we are.
From a period beginning in 1969 and ending in 1980 , Streisand appeared in the annual motion picture exhibitors poll of Top 10 Box Office Attractions a total of 10 times. She has only acted in five films since.
Streisand produced a number of her own films setting up Barwood Films in 1972.
For Yentl ( 1983) she was producer , director and star.

In 2004 made a return to film acting in the comedy Meet The Fockers playing opposite Dustin Hoffman, Benn Stiller , Blythe Danner and Robert de Niro. Barbra appeared in the third film from Meet the Parents trilogy.
Politics
Streisand has been an active supporter of the Democratic Party. Streisand has personally rais 15 million for organizations trough her live perfomances. The Streisand Foundation , established in 1986 has contributed over 16 million trough its grants to national organizations working on preservation of the environment , voter education , the protection of civil liberties and civil rights, woman's issues and nuclear disarmanent.
In 2006 Streisand donated 1 million to the William Jefferson Clinton Foundation in support of form president Bill Clinton's climita change initiative.
